Campbellford chicken lady to court

Trent Hills will go to court to enforce it’s zoning by-laws to stop a Campellford woman from continuing to keep chickens in her backyard.

Kelly Bacher, who keeps 6 chickens at her Doxsee Street home, says a Trent Hills by law officer served her with a summons late last week.

Bacher says no one ever told her anything about chickens not being allowed when she visited Trent Hills officials earlier.

The Canadian Constitution Foundation, which represented raw milk dairy farmer Micheal Schmidt, has agreed to represent the Bacher’s free of charge.

The initial court date is February 23rd in Campbellford. The backyard chicken story has attracted national media attention.
