Canada’s ambassador to the U-S says it would be easier to convince Americans to take Crown Royal whisky by pipeline than crude oil from Alberta.
The comment from Gary Doer about the Keystone X-L pipeline came yesterday during the annual Pacific Northwest Economic Region summit in Whistler, B-C.
He said the evidence supports a favourable decision by the U-S government on the pipeline first proposed in 2005 to carry oil from Alberta to Nebraska.
Doer also said decision-making delays are starting to hurt the U-S economy, noting Minnesota is having a hard time finding rail cars to transport goods because they’re hauling oil.
Delegates laughed when Doer spoke about shipping whisky from distilleries in Manitoba to Texas.
United States ambassador to Canada Bruce Heyman says while he understands the concerns, he has nothing new to report.
