A major step will be taken this fall in the lengthy story of contamination at the site of the former coal tar plant at Belleville’s harbour, and it will be taken by the landowners.
The province is calling for a cleanup plan.
The Ministry of the environment has completed its review of this summer’s test drilling at the site of the former Belleville Gas Company plant. Spokesperson Kate Jordan says it confirms the 2012 results.
Jordan says public health officials have indicated no health concerns about the contamination, which is about a metre below ground level.
The province has ordered the landowners, which include the Belleville and a number of private businesses and individuals, to have a cleanup plan in place by October.
