Belleville, other owners and former owners of the site of a former coal gas plant near the harbour are still in legal discussions about what a clean-up plan should be.
While the province considers its options about the owners missing a plan deadline in October, a Belleville official says it is a “complicated” issue.
Director of Operational Services Jim Zimmerman says the big issue about any proposed plan is what the commitment will be for “each of the parties” involved.
Zimmerman says it really depends on the extent of the work decided upon, since the cost will range from thousands of dollars to millions of dollars.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment Kate Jordan, says the department could issue a simple ticket, or issue “an order” against the owners for missing the plan deadline.
