Belleville officials say the green bin compost program in the city has been a great success in its first year of operation.
Chair of the city’s green committee Councillor Tom Lafferty says the green bin program has made a huge difference to the environment in Belleville.
Since the program went city-wide it increasingly sent waste to composting rather than landfill.
From August of 2013 to the end of this October, the city collected 1,087 metric tonnes of organic waste or 36 tractor trailers full.
