Great news for a nature enthusiasts.
Today Prince Edward Hastings MP Daryl Kramp announced improvements will be made to public access to the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife area.
The feds will be investing 8 million dollars over five years and $725,000 on an ongoing basis in 10 national wildlife areas across Canada.
The funding will focus on improving basic infrastructure to make sites more accessible, create or expand trails and viewing platforms and supporting a variety of low-impact public uses such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing or wildlife observation and photography.
The Prince Edward Point is about 20 km south of Picton along the northeast shore of Lake Ontario and was designated part of the Prince Edward County South Shore Important Bird Area by Bird Life International.
More than 300 species of birds have been recorded on the point including songbirds, waterfowl, owls and hawks. Approximately 23 federally listed species at risk have been recorded within the natural wildlife area including the Whip-poor-will and Red-headed Woodpecker.
