The long cold spell this winter has caused thick ice over most area rivers and conservation officials say there is the potential for ice jamming which can cause flooding in the spring.
Water resources manager for Quinte Conservation Bryon Keene says the ice has been measured as thick as half a metre in some spots on the Moira river.
Keene says snow levels are normal right now and temperatures will remain cold for another month so we will have to wait closer to spring to see if there will be any flooding.
Last spring the Quinte and surrounding area experienced extreme flooding caused by abnormal amounts of snowfall mixed with heavy rainfall.
