Rural residents in Northumberland County are going to be able to leave yard waste for pick up starting this year.
The county is going to try the program on a two-year trial basis, at an annual cost of $225,000.
The goal of the program is to divert more waste from the landfill in Brighton.
The lone county landfill is expected to reach capacity over the next decade.
The roadside pickup would go from May to November in 2015 and 2016 and would happen once a month.
The goal is to divert up to 2,500 more tonnes of waste from the Brighton landfill.
