A North Hastings reeve calls proposed restrictions on commercial harvesting of trees in the county, including on private property, “offensive.”
Carl Tinney, reeve of Faraday Township, told Hastings County council today that if he’s paying taxes on his property he wants to say what he can do with it, without such restrictions.
But Reeve of Hastings Highlands, Vivian Bloom, complained that companies from the United States strip the land of trees leaving total devastation, with no tree canopy remaining.
Warden Rick Phillips said they also tear up the roads in the area.
Director of Planning Brian McComb says the issue is being reviewed and no decision will be made until after a further staff report is presented to council.
