People living on the shoreline around the Bay of Quinte have an opportunity to get a free septic tank clean-out and help keep the bay clean at the same time.
This is a voluntary educational program by the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan providing homeowners with: a free pump-out of their septic tanks.
It will also include an 80% cost-sharing incentive on minor repairs to the tank.
Spokesperson Sarah Midlane-Jones says the tanks should be cleaned out every three years to keep contamination out of the environment.
Last summer 40 septic systems were cleaned free of charge, and already this year 10 homeowners have signed up for the service.
