There are a lot of wild ones at Riverside Park in Belleville today.
Over a hundred kids and parents came out to Quinte Conservation’s Wild about Wildlife event where there were six different stations that offer education and games on birds of prey, reptiles, water bugs, invasive species and local watersheds.
Education Coordinator Maya Navrot says adults get just as excited about the activities as the kids.
Nine-year-old Alexander Cruize says he definitely wasn’t scared to hold the endangered Black Rat Snake.
Navrot says by offering the public an chance to connect with wildlife it hopefully removes any fears that they may have and helps to protect them in nature.
At the end of the day the kids get to take home live shrub seedlings in paper pots that they make and then they can plant them to help local pollinators.
Event sponsor, Union Gas presented a cheque worth $2,000 that will go towards supporting all of the conservation authority’s six free wild life events.
All events including today’s runs until 3 p.m.
