A Prince Edward County resident is warning that a proposed big solar panel installation at Mitchell’s Crossroad will cause serious damage to an important wildlife habitat.
Marc Vermander has a degree in environmental geography and lives on Mitchell’s Crossroad.
He told County council’s Committee of the Whole that a project proposed by Skypower sits between two important wetlands that are home to many varieties of birds, amphibians, and other animals.
Vermander says acres of solar panels will create an “industrial park” in an area that should be promoted as an “eco-tourism” donation.
Skypower has not yet asked Prince Edward County council for its support for the project, and has not received final approval from the provincial government.
