The Prince Edward County Field Naturalists hope ongoing upgrades to the Millennium Trail will include safeguards for animals living in swampy areas.
Naturalists President Myrna Wood suggested to County council’s Committee of the Whole that cutting vegetation alongside of the trail in wetlands should be stopped.
It was also suggested that motorized vehicles be diverted off of the trail using existing roadways near the swamps, or that boardwalks be built for them to use.
The group is worried that vehicles are killing migrating frogs, snakes, and other species by running them over on the trail.
County staff will comment on the requests as part of a wider report on uses of the Millennium Trail.
