You can’t see much now but when you drive by Belleville’s Memorial Garden,at Bell Boulevard and North Park Street in the spring you’ll see all kinds of beautiful tulips.
The flowers were planted this afternoon, after they were donated by the government of the Netherlands.
President of the Belleville Legion Branch 99, Mike Joyce, says the planting is part of a tradition that’s been ongoing since the Second World War.
And Joyce says the flowers will be a poignant reminder about our past, the sacrifices made for our freedoms, and the ongoing relationship between Canada and the Netherlands.
Earlier this year the Belleville Legion strengthened the relationship with the Netherlands even more, by renaming the Branch 99 Poppy Room, in honour of Dutch Princess Margriet.
