Belleville’s planning committee has heard plans for two separate solar energy projects, one immediate, the other years away.
Both projects are being proposed under provincial programs.
Frank Miceli of Ameresco Canada Inc. asked for the city’s support for solar systems proposed on two schools, Foxboro Public School and Susanna Moody public school.
Miceli said the company has a contract with the Hastings and Prince Edward school board for the Feed in Tariff programs.
Committee chair, Councillor Jackie Denyes, says she has some concerns about the proposal for a 70,000 panel project at Belleville’s eastern boundary, although it doesn’t involve prime agricultural land.
Denyes says the city does have a requirement that there is a plan in place for disposal of the panels after 20 years.
Evan Koebel of Algonquin Power said the project would probably not go forward for about five years.
