T’was a wet December

Rain and higher temperatures were the story in the last month of 2018 locally.

While the total amount of precipitation in December in the Quinte region was near the historical
normal at 83 millimetres, the forms it took were quite different.

Last month according to Environment Canada and readings taken at CFB Trenton we received 75.6 mm
of rain. That’s much more than the average of 50 mm.

Meanwhile only about 9 mm of snow fell in our area last month, much below the normal amount of 36 cm.

As far as temperatures were concerned, December averaged a bit warmer than is usual.

The average high was 2.2 degrees Celsius and the average low was minus 6.2 degrees.

The normals for the month are 1 degree for the high and almost minus 8 for the low.
