Old man winter isn’t done yet

Another day, another weather warning for the Quinte region.

A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada for Belleville, Quinte West, Cobourg, Colborne and Northumberland County.

The weather agency says a significant snowfall is expected today and snow will continue through the day before ending this evening.

Many areas will receive near 10 centimetres of snow by this evening. Higher amounts up to 15 cm are possible over a few locales, especially near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The heaviest snow is most likely to fall this afternoon, resulting in a significant impact on the commute home late in the day. Untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination.

This snow event will be from yet another in a series of low pressure systems which have formed over the Southern Plains States. This latest low will pass by just to the south of Lake Erie.
