New snowfall record set

It was a special kind of snowstorm yesterday (Tuesday). The Picton/Consecon/Sandbanks area did not get the worst of it as it usually does.

The heaviest snowfall hit to the north around Belleville and Quinte West.

According to Environment Canada, which takes readings from CFB Trenton, 17.2 centimetres of snow fell yesterday, easily beating the previous record of 12.7 cm set back in 2008.

Highway 401, both eastbound and westbound, was closed for some time yesterday afternoon due to heavy snow and blowing snow causing multi-vehicle collisions.

No serious injuries were reported.

Now, the forecast is calling for sunshine through to Sunday.
